Low Pressure Carburizing (LPC), also known as vacuum carburizing, is an advanced heat treatment process performed in a vacuum furnace. ECM Technologies introduced the patented Infracarb® LPC process, which alternates between acetylene (C2H2) enrichment and nitrogen (N2) diffusion phases at high temperatures (880–1,050°C). This method significantly shortens cycle times (up to 50% faster than traditional atmosphere carburizing), enables precise control over case depth, and ensures exceptional repeatability and part quality.
Key Advantages:
No oxidation or inter-granular oxidation (IGO)
Superior case depth accuracy and consistency
Excellent carburizing efficiency using acetylene
Reduced CO2 emissions and environmental impact
Flexible process recipes for various materials and parts
Enhanced fatigue resistance and part aesthetics
ECM's ICBP® systems use Infracarb® technology to support a wide range of applications, offering solutions from compact furnaces (NANO) to large multi-chamber systems (FLEX, JUMBO). Process parameters are optimized with advanced simulation software (CBPWin), ensuring tailored results for demanding industries.
After carburizing, the process is completed with oil or gas quenching to achieve the desired hardness and properties. LPC by ECM Technologies delivers reliable, eco-friendly, and high-quality heat treatment for modern manufacturing needs.
